Cutting and Forming Tools

In the machine tool industry, tools are one of the most important components of machining. Whether it is a lathe, milling machine, machine center, drilling machine, tapping machine, they all need to install good tools to perform cutting, drilling, tapping or other machining movements.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, the development of aeronautical technology and the rapid increase in market demand have led to the rapid development of processing tools. Later, milling machines were invented for more complex machining. Multi-task cutting function has become the focus of tool developers.

In addition to tools, accessories such as tool shanks (tool holders), stabilizers, locknuts and spindle joints are also important for machining. The market for these products is huge, especially in the automotive, aerospace, household appliances, 3c electronic consumables, defense, and power generation industries. When positioning the workpiece as a complex contour, the number of tools installed on the turret or tool magazine will increase, so the management system will become very complicated.

Types of Cutting and Forming Tools

Collet Chuck

Chuck chucks are a sub-type of chucks that form a collar around the object to be fixed (usually a workpiece). When the object is tightened, a strong clamping force is applied to the object, and the clamping mechanism is usually located on the outer cone. The machine tool can be equipped with a collet chuck to fix the workpiece or tool. The outer collet is a sleeve with a cylindrical inner surface and a conical outer surface.

Drill

The drill bit is a processing tool clamped on the chuck of the drilling machine for drilling purposes. On the drilling machine, each spindle will be equipped with a drill bit, but some drilling machines can only install one spindle.

For example, gang drilling machines and many screw manufacturing machines are designed to have multiple spindles, allowing the execution of multiple different spindles, so in this case, those drilling machines contain more than one spindle, and there are many corresponding drills thereafter.

End Mill

In the metal processing industry, an end mill is a milling cutter, a cutting tool used in industrial milling. It differs from drilling tools in practical applications, geometry and production. Drill bits can only be cut in the axial direction, while most milling cutters can usually cut in all directions. End mills are used for contour milling, trace milling, face milling and many other applications.

Tool Holders

In the machine tool industry, all types of machine tools are equipped with at least one tool holder. Lathes, milling machines, machine centers, drilling machines, boring machines, and even tapping machines are equipped with tool holders. Tools can be clamped and loosened for replacement to continue unfinished machining tasks or perform different machining tasks.

Summary

According to market demand, there are many different types of tool systems that can be used in the most suitable way to shape the ideal workpiece contour during metal processing. With the advent of smart manufacturing trends, suppliers are actively working to use tooling technology to add more value to these tooling units and support parts to ensure better use.
